KTM Bike Price in India, Models, and Brand Overview

KTM motorcycles in India start at a price of ₹2,05,441, making them a strong contender in the performance biking segment. The company currently offers 22 models, with top-selling bikes including the 200 Duke, 250 Duke, and 390 Duke. KTM is also gearing up to launch exciting new models such as the 390 SMC R, RC 160, and 160 Duke. The most premium model in the lineup is the KTM 1390 Super Duke R, priced at ₹22,95,800.

A Glimpse into KTM’s Legacy

KTM (Kronreif & Trunkenpolz Mattighofen) originated in Austria, with its roots dating back to the early 1950s. In 1953, entrepreneur Ernst Kronreif became a key shareholder in Kraftfahrzeug Trunkenpolz Mattighofen, leading to the company’s rebranding. By 1954, KTM began serial production of the R100 model with a small team of 20 employees, producing three motorcycles a day.

Their motorsport journey began soon after, with KTM securing the Austrian 125cc National Championship in the same year. The brand made a significant mark in 1956 at the International Six Days Trial, where Egon Dornauer won a gold medal. As innovation continued, KTM launched its first scooter, the Mirabell, and began operating a dedicated factory by 1964. By 1971, the workforce grew to 400, and the product range expanded to 42 different models by the company’s 40th anniversary.

KTM’s Journey in India

The turning point for KTM in India came in 2012, when Bajaj Auto increased its stake in the company to 47%, from an initial 14.5%. This year also marked the Indian debut of the KTM Duke 200, which was a game-changer in the entry-level performance motorcycle market.

Earlier, in 2008, KTM and Bajaj had already joined forces to develop three mass-market bikes: the 125cc, 200cc, and 390cc motorcycles. This collaboration strengthened KTM’s footprint in India and beyond.

KTM’s Global Presence and Production

The KTM-Bajaj alliance has enabled large-scale production from Bajaj’s Chakan facility near Pune, where popular models like the Duke and RC series are manufactured. These bikes are exported to several countries, including Europe, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Nepal, Thailand, Colombia, and Argentina.

KTM also owns Husqvarna Motorcycles, and upcoming models such as the Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen are expected to be produced at the same Chakan plant. In 2017, Bajaj hinted at an all-new range of Made-in-India Husqvarnas, further expanding the group’s portfolio in India.
